In a major overhaul of India’s healthcare education landscape, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, alongside the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP), has notified 33 new and 21 restructured undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Designed under a “One Nation, One Curriculum” framework, this milestone amendment brings nationwide uniformity to degree nomenclature, course duration, and entry qualifications across key disciplines such as Physiotherapy, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Optometry, and Nutrition. The reform ensures institutional parity, aligns Indian qualifications with global academic standards, and enhances international mobility for Indian healthcare professionals.
Beyond degree standardization, the new framework introduces advanced specialization options across master’s programs in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Imaging Technology, and Respiratory Care. Emphasizing practical competency, the NCAHP has mandated competency-based curricula featuring hands-on clinical internships starting from the 2026–27 academic year. By streamlining education pathways and strengthening skill-based training, this national initiative aims to build a future-ready, highly competent healthcare workforce across the country.
