The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has officially announced the recipients of the prestigious Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards for 2024. Designed to recognize extraordinary achievements in challenging conditions and to cultivate endurance, risk-taking, and decisive leadership among the nation’s youth, the awards represent India’s highest honor in the field of adventure. Following a thorough evaluation by the National Selection Committee, four outstanding individuals have been selected across the categories of Land Adventure, Water Adventure, and Lifetime Achievement.
In the Land Adventure category, top honors were awarded to celebrated mountaineer Baljeet Kaur from Himachal Pradesh, known for her record-breaking high-altitude climbs, alongside Skalzang Rigzin, who achieved the rare feat of summiting Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen or Sherpa support. International para-channel swimmer Rimo Saha secured the award for Water Adventure, celebrating his remarkable persistence and aquatic achievements. Meanwhile, former ITBP Deputy Inspector General Shiv Prasad Chamoli was conferred the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for his decades-long dedication and leadership in mountain rescue and outdoor pursuits.
The honorees will be presented with their awards by President Droupadi Murmu at a formal ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, held alongside the National Sports Awards 2025. Each recipient will receive a statuette, an official certificate of excellence, and a cash prize of ₹15 lakh. This initiative highlights the Central Government’s sustained focus on nurturing a culture of courage, discipline, and cooperative teamwork across the country.
