In a landmark initiative blending education with national values, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has renamed five state-run engineering colleges after some of India’s most revered historical and cultural figures. The move aims to instill moral responsibility, social awareness, and leadership qualities in the new generation of technocrats.
This transformation, officially approved by Governor Anandiben Patel, is part of a broader vision to redefine technical education as a vehicle for both intellectual and ethical development. Uttar Pradesh Technical Education Minister Ashish Patel termed the initiative a “historic step” that will align academic identity with the ideals of nation-building and social justice.
“These names are not just titles—they are role models. The youth will carry with them the legacies of these great personalities, developing not only technical skills but also becoming socially responsible citizens,” Patel said.
The colleges have been renamed as follows:
-
Pratapgarh: Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Rajkiya Engineering College
-
Mirzapur: Samrat Ashoka Rajkiya Engineering College
-
Basti: Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rajkiya Engineering College
-
Gonda: Maa Pateshwari Devi Rajkiya Engineering College
-
Mainpuri: Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Rajkiya Engineering College
The state government hopes this initiative will nurture a new generation of professionals who blend innovation with integrity and play pivotal roles not only in India’s technological advancement but also in its social and ethical progress.
