For the fifth year, activists around the world are Rising in Solidarity to demand an end to the Exploitation of all women and girls, as part of the global One Billion Rising movement. on the occasion of Women’s Day, a workshop was organized under the OBR campaign at Govt. College Sanjauli Shimla (Centre of Excellence) by YWCA of Simla. Principal of the college, Diksha Malhotra was the Chief Guest on this occasion. The program started with lighting of the lamp. The Principal addressed the audience and highlighted the importance of Women’s Day Celebration.
The General Secretary of YWCA of Simla, Rohini Singh discussed the One Billion Rising campaign and concept and two short documentary movies on the campaign were screened on this occasion followed by an interactive discussion.
Sangha Mitra (Convener, Women Cell) and. Kamayani (Member, Women Cell) of the college also helped in coordinating the workshop. Certificates of participation were distributed to the participants including Gender Champions followed by OBR pledge led by the Principal. A signature campaign was also organised on this occasion.
The program concluded with a play directed by Narendra Verma on the theme ‘Solidarity against Exploitation of Women’. Participants of the play Anuj Kumar, Karishma Verma, Lalita Devi, Pooja Pathak, Preetika Nautiyal, Rishika Verma, Virender Chandayta, Narendra Verma among others.
It was reiterated that the OBR campaign aimed at bringing about continuous introspection and reflexivity in society.
