Think Globally and Act Locally to Ensure that Food Produced Domestically be Safe Internationally; various events organized to mark the on WHD; Islam and Sehdab get first prize in poster making while Priyanka won the ‘Kaun Benega Sanjeev Kapoor’ contest?; More than 300 students participate in the event.

WHD.8.4 (3)The Department of Community Medicine of Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla along with the National Health Mission organized the World Health Day in Shimla. Quite a few private and public Schools of Shimla City along with MBBS and Nursing students participated in various events during this occasion. More than 300 students from 20 different schools from in and around Shimla were part of this programme, which was organized by the North Zone Indian Association of Preventive Medicine under the Adolescent School Health Programme. Principal of IGMC inaugurated the programme, while various events were judged by Prof Rajeev Raina Prof Medicine, Dr Sanjeev Sharma Prof Radiology and staff advisor CSA, Dr Rajesh Kashyap Prof Medicine, Dr Shyam Kaushik Prof Adolescent Medicine. The judges for ‘Kauan Benga Sanjeev Kapoor’ were Dr Anita Thakur, Dr Brij Sharma, Dr Parveen Bhardwaj and for the poster competition it was Dr Dineshwar Dhadwal, Dr Narender Mahajan and Dr Gopal Beri OSD, School Health NHM HP.

WHD.8.4 (2)Director Secondary Education gave away the prizes to the winners while congratulating them and at the same time he also requested the organizers to undertake such activities in the rural areas to help adolescents. Dr Anmol Gupta, Professor Community Medicine and Nodal Officer for Adolescent School Health Programme further informed that such workshops will be held in all public and private schools of Shimla City throughout the year. He enlightened about the food borne pathogens that can cause severe diarrhea or debilitating infections including meningitis. “Chemical contamination can lead to acute poisoning for long-term diseases, such as cancer. Food borne diseases may lead to long-lasting disability and death. Examples of unsafe food include uncooked foods from animal origin, fruits and vegetables contaminated with faeces, and raw shellfish containing marine biotoxins”, he concluded.

whd.8.4 (4)The students and guests present were also informed about five keys to keep food safe — Keep it clean; Separate raw and cooked food; Cook thoroughly; Keep food at safe temperatures; and Use safe water and raw material.

Poster Competition — Islam and Sehdab got first position, while Hitesh and Modak stood second and Abdul and Sanjay were third.

Quiz Competition — Prakriti and Shivansh were first, Kamaljeet and Shweta stood second and Sunny and Sakshi got the third position.

WHD.8.4 (1)Kauan Benega Sanjeev Kapoor — Priyanka stood first, Jyoti was second and Vaishali was third.

Just a Minute Event — Priyanka was first, Sachin was second and Prachi got the third position. In addition to this GSS Bhount’s Rekha and Rahul were announced winners in Chautter Sayani Menstrual Game.
