ack10.4.15adExcitement and enthusiasm was on full scale as tiny tots came to school dressed in vibrant colours and costumes to participate in the fancy dress competition organized for the junior section here today at Auckland House Girls School, Shimla. The campus and hall was full of kids in bright coloured clothes as the contest was organized for children from Nursery up to Second Class. All were dressed in different attires to impress the judges. Few children were very excited to participate while some were nervous about stepping on the stage. Vinita Wilson, Coordinator, Junior Section said, “It is great to see so many children participating today as our main aim is to encourage children and make them confident by organizing such events. Total of 147 children participated today and the judges were teachers Neelam Singh and Nandita. It is amazing to see children dressed up presenting unique ideas all set to steal the show”.

The event began as Yaaganaya dressed as a sheep, from Nursery section stepped onto the stage. Cotton wrapped all around her dress made her look just like a sheep, and bagged the first prize. Twinkle Twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are, came the little star Vanya, who wonack10.4.15b the second prize. Ekantika won the first prize dressed as fairy wearing a cute white and pink frock, while Japasmi bagged the second prize dressed as Punjabi girl wearing a bright swalar kurta with a paranda.

From Lower Kindergarten, Devayani got the first prize for dressing up as traffic light. She was carrying a poster depicting traffic lights — red, yellow and green. Shavi won the second prize for dressing up as Lord Krishna, wearing a colorful dhoti kurta and crown. Aiyana dressed as former prime minister of India, Indira Gandhi won the first prize. Wearing a white saree she looked very sweet. Nandita, winner of second prize was dressed as a confident teacher carrying sunglasses and purse.

ack10.4.15acSetkashi from Upper Kindergarten was dressed as a child labourer who beautifully presented the pain of children working to earn their bread and butter. She was adjudged first while second prize was won by Lavanaya who portrayed the theme “Save Girl Child”. Other winners were Parija and Gurbani who came in first and second respectively. Parija was dressed as a bottle of Dettol conveying an important message to wash our hands properly, while Gurbani was dressed as a cute fairy.

Jiya from First Class won hearts as she spoke on the importance of saving girls, while second prize was bagged by Bhavya who was elegantly dressed as a Kathak dancer and proved her skills and confidence by giving a nice performance. Another meaning act was presented by Angel dressed as a tree dustbin to save the environment.

ack10.4.15aOther star attractions included Shifa as a blood drop and Arzoo Kumra spreading the message to “Save the Holy Ganga”. They both jointly shared the first prize from Class One. Pritha Doegar, dressed in a shoddy old salwar kameez portrayed the character of a Rag Picker. Carrying a sack full of waste material she was depicting the sad plight of this unprivileged class. Her message to the society was to help and educate children. She won the second prize. Other winners included Arshea dressed as a butterfly who won the third prize while Sharanya spoke about the negatives of eating junk food and adopting a more healthy diet for a good living.

Students from Class Two were quite vocal about disseminating important message, such as save tigers, avoid junk food, heroics of Rani Jhansi and Razia Sultan, save trees and much more. Shairana won the first prize, Ipshita was second; Vermika and Abhividha too were proud winners. Other children who participated were Gunjan, Angel, Murisha, Anshika, Sanvi, Devanshi, Anvesha, Anamika.

The non-participating students cheered their peers and were spellbound to see such beautiful and message driven performances. Other equally good ideas and performances presented were on saving the environment, donating eyes, reading newspapers, mythological and religious characters to name a few. Neelam Singh, Class Teacher, said “Children were just amazing with their innovative ideas. It is nice to see children perform with such ease and confidence. The event was a huge success as children learnt about so many new things and concepts that affect our lives”.

The morning ended with loud claps and cheers for some amazing performances by the junior brigade !!!
