In a massive and swift rescue operation led by the State Government under the direct supervision of CM Sukhu, a total of 1,166 stranded pilgrims of the Manimahesh Yatra were successfully evacuated from Bharmour to Chamba within 24 hours. All rescued devotees were further transported to their respective destinations free of cost in HRTC buses.

On Thursday, 524 individuals were airlifted from Bharmour in 12 sorties of Indian Air Force Chinook helicopters. Additionally, three mortal remains were respectfully transported from Bharmour to Chamba. A day earlier, 35 pilgrims were evacuated through 7 helicopter sorties, also without any charge.

Alongside the air operations, the Chamba district administration successfully moved 607 stranded pilgrims by road, ensuring their safety at damaged road stretches with proper security arrangements. Pilgrims had to walk through some rough patches under supervision, but were supported with free food, drinking water, and other essential supplies en route. Upon reaching Chamba, they were further transported to Nurpur and Pathankot in 13 HRTC buses late at night, again free of charge.

Chief Minister Sukhu kept a close watch on the rescue efforts, while Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi personally led the operations at ground zero in Bharmour.

Speaking to media in Kullu, the Chief Minister commended Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi for his leadership and applauded the coordinated efforts of the NDRF, SDRF, Police, Home Guards, District Administration Chamba, officials from multiple departments, NGOs, and volunteers, who worked relentlessly to ensure the safety and well-being of the stranded pilgrims.
