In a significant move to ease the urban transition for thousands of residents, the State Government has announced a three-year continuation of rural water tariffs for areas newly added under Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). This initiative aims to provide economic relief and ensure a seamless shift for the populace impacted by the recent administrative overhaul.

According to a government spokesperson, 47,820 consumers across the state will benefit from this decision, which includes not only subsidized water tariffs but also exemptions from property tax for residents of these newly urbanized zones.

As part of the restructuring:

  • 14 new Nagar Panchayats have been created: Sandhole, Dharampur, Baldwara, Banikhet, Khundian, Kotla, Nagrota Surian, Kunihar, Jhandutta, Swarghat, Barsar, Bharari, Bangana, and Shillai.
  • Hamirpur, Una, and Baddi have been upgraded to Municipal Corporations.
  • Nadaun and Baijnath-Paprola have been elevated to Municipal Councils.

These changes bring more areas under urban governance, but the state has ensured that residents won’t face immediate hikes in utility costs. “This decision protects citizens from sudden financial stress while providing access to improved civic amenities,” the spokesperson said.

This forward-thinking policy reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive urban development while prioritizing the economic well-being of its people.
