Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta today reviewed preparations for the upcoming statewide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign. The campaign, part of the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP), will begin on 28 February 2026.

During the meeting, Gupta directed all departments to coordinate closely to ensure smooth implementation. He stressed spreading awareness through Panchayati Raj Institutions, Urban Local Bodies, schools, and media platforms to educate parents and beneficiaries about the benefits, safety, and free availability of the vaccine.

Highlighting its importance, he said the HPV vaccine helps prevent cervical cancer, the second most common cancer among women in India. He added that scientific studies confirm the vaccine’s safety and efficacy, and it is widely used internationally.

Under the campaign, around 67,000 girls aged 14–15 will receive a single-dose vaccine free of cost. Vaccination sessions are scheduled for 29 March, 5 April, and 12 April 2026, with additional sessions on 19 April, 10 May, 24 May, and 21 June 2026 for those who miss the initial rounds.

Vaccinations will be conducted at 378 government health institutions by trained healthcare workers, with proper cold chain management. Registration and monitoring will be done digitally via the U-WIN portal, and parental consent will be ensured for all beneficiaries.
