The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) and its laboratories across India marked National Science Day 2026 with a wide range of activities including lectures, student visits, live demonstrations, and public outreach programs aimed at promoting scientific curiosity and awareness among students and the general public.
This year, the celebrations were held under the theme “Women in Science: Catalyzing Viksit Bharat”, emphasizing the critical role of women in advancing science and building a self-reliant and developed India.
In New Delhi, the CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB) and the Science Communication and Dissemination Directorate (SCDD), CSIR Headquarters, organized special programs honoring Nobel Laureate Sir C. V. Raman and his discovery of the Raman Effect. An exhibition along Dr. C. V. Raman Marg highlighted his life, scientific contributions, and India’s rich scientific heritage.
Adding a hands-on dimension, scientists from CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL), along with experts from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, conducted live demonstrations of the Raman Effect. School and undergraduate students from institutions like Jamia Hamdard actively participated, learning about its significance and applications in fields such as materials science, chemistry, medicine, and industry.
Students were also guided through CSIR-IGIB laboratories, gaining exposure to cutting-edge research and ongoing scientific projects.
In a special public outreach initiative, the Qutub Minar was illuminated in the evening in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, spreading awareness about National Science Day and celebrating science’s transformative role in society.
Through these nationwide initiatives, CSIR reaffirmed its commitment to fostering scientific temper, inspiring young learners, and bringing science closer to society, in alignment with India’s vision of a science-led, Viksit Bharat.
