The 62nd birthday of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was celebrated with enthusiasm at his official residence, Oak Over, today. Party workers, cabinet colleagues, officials, and citizens gathered in large numbers to convey their greetings and best wishes for his health, long life, and continued leadership.

In a symbolic gesture promoting environmental conservation, the Chief Minister planted a Chinar sapling within Oak Over. His wife, Kamlesh Thakur, along with other family members, joined the celebrations.

Earlier, the Chief Minister flagged off a marathon organized by Himachal Pradesh Secretariat employees, which started at the Secretariat and concluded at the Church at Ridge, drawing enthusiastic participation from both employees and citizens. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted that the State Budget is people-centric, focusing on the welfare and upliftment of citizens.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive growth, prosperity, and holistic development of the State. He emphasized that the government is dedicated to ensuring welfare benefits reach every individual, reflecting the principles of good governance.

Expressing concern over the abrupt discontinuation of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG), in place since 1952, he described it as a rightful entitlement for Himachal Pradesh and assured that the government would continue advocating for its restoration.

Highlighting the State’s ecological contribution, Sukhu noted that Himachal Pradesh provides environmental services valued at nearly Rs. 90,000 crore annually. He added that the government is working to strengthen fiscal management and social security, including the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme for government employees.

As part of the birthday celebrations, the Chief Minister distributed financial assistance to 18 women beneficiaries under the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. Each received Rs. 1 lakh as the first installment of a total Rs. 3 lakh aid, supporting them in building their own homes.

Youth engagement and community service were also emphasized, with a blood donation camp and a boxing competition organized at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex by the Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress and State Youth units.
