CM Sukhu has urged the people of Himachal Pradesh to extend full cooperation and participate wholeheartedly in the upcoming Census-2027 exercise, describing it as a crucial foundation for democratic planning and development.
The direction came during a meeting after Director, Census Operations-cum-Citizen Registration, Himachal Pradesh, Deep Shikha Sharma, called on the Chief Minister and briefed him on key preparations and features of the upcoming census process.
Officials informed that Census-2027 will be conducted in two phases. The first phase, covering House Listing and Housing Census, will be held in Himachal Pradesh from 16 June to 15 July 2026. The second phase, focused on Population Enumeration, will be conducted in different time windows depending on geography—11 to 30 September 2026 in snow-bound areas and 9 to 28 February 2027 in other regions.
A new feature of “Self Enumeration” has also been introduced, allowing citizens to submit their details online through the portal se.census.gov.in between 1 June and 15 June 2026. This edition of the census will be conducted entirely in digital mode, with enumerators and supervisors using mobile devices to collect data based on a set of 33 notified questions covering households and population details.
Calling the census a vital instrument for governance, the Chief Minister said that accurate data collection forms the backbone of effective policy-making and future development planning. He appealed to citizens to actively participate in this national exercise and support field officials during the process.
