Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly elected Pradhans and Up-Pradhans of Panchayati Raj Institutions in Kangra district at Dari ground, Dharamshala. On the occasion, he also administered a collective pledge to make Himachal Pradesh free from Chitta and strengthen the anti-drug movement.
The Chief Minister said Panchayats are the foundation of democracy and play a crucial role in village development. He urged elected representatives to ensure transparency, accountability and active public participation in implementing welfare schemes, while promoting social harmony and inclusive growth at the grassroots level.
Highlighting the government’s roadmap, Sukhu said Himachal Pradesh is being steered towards self-reliance through fiscal reforms, better resource management and strengthened rural economy. He also outlined key initiatives in education, health, tourism and employment, along with efforts to safeguard the state’s financial and hydro-power interests at the national level.
On drug abuse, he said the Anti-Chitta Jan Andolan has been converted into a statewide campaign, with 234 Panchayats identified as affected and placed under special monitoring. He called upon Panchayat representatives to actively engage youth in constructive activities such as sports, education and cultural programmes.
The Chief Minister urged the newly elected representatives to work with integrity and dedication, stating that strong Panchayats are essential for building a strong and developed Himachal Pradesh.
