A review meeting on the progress of the Green Panchayat Scheme was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, focusing on the installation of solar power projects across panchayats, power generation status, and upcoming initiatives under the programme.

Pathania said the state government, under the leadership of CM Sukhu, is working with a clear vision to transform every panchayat into a self-reliant unit through clean and renewable solar energy. He added that the Green Panchayat Scheme is not only promoting green power but also strengthening rural infrastructure, including the phased development of electric vehicle charging stations to support eco-friendly transport in villages.

He further noted that the initiative is expected to boost panchayat revenues, generate local employment, and accelerate economic independence at the grassroots level.

Under the scheme, HIMURJA has identified 24 panchayats for setting up solar power projects. Electricity generation has already begun from 500 kW plants in four panchayats—Mamlig in Solan, Pashmi in Sirmaur, and Parali and Dharech in Shimla district.

Pathania also informed that the solar project in Pargod Panchayat under Shahpur Assembly constituency has been completed, and grid connectivity has been taken up with the Energy Department. After approvals, power generation is likely to commence in the first week of July.

Each 500 kW solar plant is expected to generate around 8 lakh units of electricity annually, translating into an estimated income of about ₹28 lakh per year.

Under the revenue-sharing model, 25% of earnings will go to the concerned Gram Panchayat, 25% for the welfare of orphans and widows, 20% to the state government, 10% to HIMURJA, and 20% towards operation and maintenance.

Officials said the initiative marks a major step towards environmental sustainability while simultaneously driving rural economic growth and community welfare.
