On the eve of Doctors’ Day, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said India is rapidly advancing precision medicine and developing indigenous healthcare solutions using gene therapy, nuclear medicine and emerging technologies to tackle global health challenges.

Addressing a Doctors’ Day conclave, he said India’s genetic diversity and growing scientific ecosystem offer a unique opportunity to develop “Indian data for Indian patients” while creating affordable solutions for the world.

He said healthcare is moving towards personalised treatment based on genetic profile, lifestyle and environment, enabling more accurate diagnosis and better outcomes. Dr. Singh highlighted the Genome India Mission, which has sequenced over 10,000 genomes, as a key step towards building a strong foundation for personalised healthcare in the country.

Referring to scientific progress, he noted India’s successful gene therapy demonstration for haemophilia and said gene and nuclear medicine will transform future treatment approaches. He also underlined the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, improving diagnostics, telemedicine and medical research.

The Minister said India is now developing new drugs indigenously, including antibiotics for drug-resistant infections, marking a shift from manufacturing to innovation. He cited initiatives like BioE3 Policy and Bio-RIDE Mission as key drivers of growth in biotechnology and healthcare innovation.

Dr. Singh described Ayushman Bharat as one of the world’s most inclusive health schemes and stressed the need for preventive healthcare amid rising non-communicable diseases. He said India’s progress in genomics, biotech and medical research reflects the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, positioning the country as a global leader in affordable and advanced healthcare.
