Chairing a high-level meeting of the Power Department on Thursday evening, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu directed officials to initiate the process for taking over the 382 MW Sunni, 210 MW Luhri Stage-I, and 66 MW Dhaulasidh hydroelectric projects, earlier allotted to SJVNL.

The Chief Minister said hydropower remains the backbone of Himachal Pradesh’s economy and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of the state’s natural resources accrue to its people. He added that the government is taking all necessary steps to secure the state’s rightful share and ensure optimal utilisation of hydropower assets for public welfare.

He also directed officials to renegotiate the terms and conditions of the 500 MW Duggar hydroelectric project being developed by NHPC, following its proposal to increase the dam height. He said Himachal Pradesh must receive fair and enhanced benefits in line with the revised project parameters.

Highlighting another key achievement, the Chief Minister referred to the resolution of the long-pending 422 MW Kishau dam project. He said the revised arrangement ensures that Himachal Pradesh will receive 211 MW of free power without any capital investment, expected to generate nearly ₹600 crore annually for the state.
