The CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) successfully organized a two-day Skill Training Program on “Popular Science Writing” from August 6 to 7, 2026, at its New Delhi campus. Conducted under Phase III of the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative, the program brought together 21 participants from across the country, including researchers, scientists, academicians, students, IT professionals, and R&D personnel. The initiative aimed to enhance participants’ science communication skills and equip them to translate complex research into engaging, accessible narratives for the public.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Geeta Vani Rayasam, Director of CSIR-NIScPR, who urged participants to present scientific ideas simply and accurately to nurture a scientific temper across society. Mukesh A. Pund, Head of the Training Division, welcomed the gathering and stressed the role of popular science writing in expanding the real-world impact of scientific research. The sessions were coordinated by Meetali Bharti, Mohd. Salim Ansari, and Dr. Manish Mohan Gore, who guided the academic proceedings throughout the training.

Over the two days, participants attended specialized lectures and interactive exercises led by prominent media professionals and science communicators. Key training sessions covered foundational writing styles, adapting academic research papers into popular articles, using AI for social media content, writing for digital news media, drafting scientific press releases, and exploring career pathways and ethical considerations in science communication.

The program concluded with a valedictory session where certificates were awarded to the participants. The training provided attendees with practical skills in digital content creation and public outreach, reinforcing CSIR-NIScPR’s ongoing commitment to building capacity in science communication nationwide.
