Clare Booth Luce had a wildly varied and successful life—as a child she understudied Mary Pickford, later she was an editor at Vanity Fair, wrote a hit play, The Women, was a noted war correspondent, served two terms in Congress, and was ambassador to Brazil. She was also a participant in some of the first LSD experiments.
