It is now time to take your kids to the market and be ready to be surprised as your children will help you buy the vegetables. During a vegetable bash party tiny tots aged two, three and four years were taught about different vegetables and their importance in our daily diet. School Principal Gurpreet Thukral (Poonam), Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Shimla with the help of her staff showcased their efforts as they made the children learn and remember the names of vegetables. Play schools always work through the concepts of teaching the children through play way methods but when a live demonstration is presented, learning becomes easy and fun. That is what the vegetable bash was about.
Their class teacher Harvinder Kaur (Dimple) was dressed as a vegetable vendor, selling various vegetables to the children who in turn were dressed in similar vegetable costumes. It was pure joy to watch the little ones dressed as vegetable, namely Charvi – cucumber; Riya – peas; Nelaksh – capsicum; Sayam – cabbage; Vanshika – mushroom; Raja – potato; Jyoti – turnip; Asmi – carrot; Savya – tomato; Sapna – brinjal; Karanveer – cauliflower; Prince – ldy’s finger; Anshu – chilli; Deepkaran – corn; Lakshay – onion; Mehardeep – pumpkin. This bash was planned as a medium of practical learning for the children. Since last one week emphasis was laid on encouraging children to draw and colour vegetables and even get different vegetables for lunch to help them recognize and easily learn about them, an innovative way to make learning enjoyable.
School Principal Gurpreet Thukral (Poonam) said, “As children nowadays are fond of junk food and barely eat their vegetables, this was an excellent effort to attract them to the world of healthy food and interest them in eating vegetables. This way children visualize things better and by dressing as vegetables, the imprint of learning is much more greater and has a lasting impact on their memory. We also taught them to recite few lines about the kind of vegetable they portrayed”. She further added that for future events we have planned a session with fruits and another with vehicles for better understanding and learning.
This colorful gala ended on a high not as all the children really enjoyed the day and also shed their fears of coming up front to recite their lines.
