Following continuous heavy rainfall that has caused landslides, road blockages, and the destruction of some pedestrian bridges across the district, student safety has emerged as a key concern for local authorities.

In response, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Torul S. Ravish, has invoked powers under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, to order the closure of all educational institutions on August 30, 2025, across the Kullu, Banjar, and Manali subdivisions.

The closure applies to all government and private institutions, including schools, colleges, DIET, ITIs, polytechnic institutes, engineering and pharmacy colleges, as well as Anganwadi centres.
