The second day of such an eventful debate competition commenced with great zeal and valor with two formidable teams battling head-to-head on the topic “Parents are responsible for their children’s lack of values.” St Xavier’s Collegiate School, Kolkata supported the motion while Convent of Jesus and Mary, Shimla opposed the motion.

Convent of Jesus and Mary offered St Xavier’s a run for their money by terming the key words as they expressed their opinions on a child ‘s expression of free will and they signified the importance of morality in proportion to a person’s choice by stating that ‘a parent builds a foundation for children while children are responsible to make a structure out of it’, the following eloquent statement made during this debate was one of the most captivating highlights of the day.

The proposition argued vehemently and underlined the importance of parents as a primary source for socialization as they teach virtues which shape a child in the society. The proposition culminated that adults with psychological scars have been raised in abusive households. The debate was very compelling as both sides showcased their ability to prove their stance but the motion was carried in favour of St Xavier’s Collegiate, Kolkata.

One of the most vivid debates of the day was fought between Assam Valley School opposing the motion and Auckland House School proposing the motion, “Everything West is not gold standard.” The proposition stated that we may be influenced by the western society but it is not necessary to follow their societal norms.

The opposition stated that many ideas of the west have laid the cornerstone for freedom through the ideas of liberty, fraternity and democracy hence it is crucial to formulate that the west is superior to the East. Assam Valley School emerged victorious due to their ideology of autonomous freedom.

The most articulate debate of the day was contested between Mayo College, Ajmer and St Xavier’s Collegiate, Kolkata on the subject that “All countries have a right to nuclear weapons.” The proposition constituted of the debaters from Mayo College while the opposition consisted of the St Xavier’s Collegiate. The proposition highlighted the negligent requirement of nuclear weapons for protection.
