Bishop Cotton School (BCS) in Shimla is all set to witness a spectacular display of sporting drama as it hosts the 20th Goldstein Cricket tournament this weekend. The tournament, named after former BCS Headmaster Major R.K. Von Goldstein, will feature some of India’s finest schools competing against each other from April 21-24, 2023.

Highs and Lows of the Battlefields

The first day of the tournament saw BCS boys outshine their rivals, Lawrence School, Sanawar, with an impressive display of cricketing skills. The boys showcased their talent by taking 9 wickets while chasing down 103 runs. Kabir G hit the winning runs, and Anvender (29) and Tejas (37 not out) played brilliantly. Kabir S also contributed to the win by taking three wickets. This match has a rich history of over 100 years.

Apart from BCS, the tournament will feature several other top-tier schools such as The Lawrence School, Sanawar, Pinegrove School, Dharampur, Mayo College, Ajmer, La Martiniere College, Lucknow, Vasant Valley High School, New Delhi, and Yadavindra Public School YPS, Patiala.

Early Morning Qualifying Matches

The participating teams will play qualifying matches at dawn, making it an early start to the day. The tournament promises to be a thrilling experience for all cricket enthusiasts.

Dreams of Becoming Top Cricketers

Old Cottonian Mayank Dagar, who currently plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, reminisces about his time playing for BCS. He says, “I got into the school team that same year, and winning games for my school was the best feeling, especially the Goldstein tournament. I was pumped up to win for school for BCS – and that’s where they saw my talent. I went on to play for the HP State team and got my break into the Under 19 World Cup team followed by IPL and Ranji Trophy.”

One of India’s Oldest Sporting Rivalries

The Bishop Cotton School vs. The Lawrence School, Sanawar, match is one of India’s oldest sporting rivalries, having been played for over a century. This year’s game promises to be as thrilling as the previous ones.
