The bustling corridors of Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, are alive with excitement as the school prepares to host its annual Elocution Extravaganza, where young minds from various schools in and around Shimla are set to embark on a captivating journey of self-discovery through the art of expression. The two-day event, commencing on July 21st from 9.00 am onwards, promises to be a grand spectacle of eloquence, poetry, prose, drama, and the challenging Turn-Coat competition for senior students.

This year’s Elocution Extravaganza is not just about winning accolades but also about unlocking the magic of words and the power of eloquence. With a legacy of 24 years, the competition aims to encourage good English-speaking as an essential skill and an area of interest among the students. Each division caters to different age groups, offering a diverse range of literary expressions.

The competition has a special significance as it pays homage to the late Mr. B. L. Modi, a former teacher and Head of Department for Mathematics at Bishop Cotton School. Mr. Modi’s dedication, punctuality, and profound knowledge left an indelible mark on the school and its students, making him highly regarded among the Old Cottonians and the Board of Governors.

The event is divided into five divisions, catering to various age groups and literary genres. The Junior Division (Classes 3, 4, and 5) will showcase young talents in poetry, while the Intermediate Division (A) (Classes 6 and 7) will present poetic renditions. The Intermediate Division (B) (Class 8) will focus on mesmerizing prose performances, while the Senior Division (Classes 9 and 10) will set the stage ablaze with gripping drama presentations. Lastly, the Open Division (Classes 11 and 12) will challenge students’ wit and eloquence in the Turn-Coat competition.

Participants from prominent schools, including Auckland House School for Boys, Auckland House School for Girls, Chapslee School, Convent of Jesus and Mary, DAV School, Loreto Convent Tara Hall, St. Edwards’ School, and Shimla Public School, will also grace the event, making it a wonderful opportunity for students to meet, interact, and learn from each other.

The competition not only aims to discover the best speakers in each division but also acknowledges the most promising speaker, emphasizing the importance of fostering eloquence and expression among the young generation. As the curtains rise on this captivating journey of words and expression, the stage awaits the brilliance of these young talents, leaving the audience in awe and inspiration.

The Elocution Extravaganza is not just a competition but a celebration of language, literature, and the spirit of Mr. B. L. Modi’s enduring legacy. The event promises to be a remarkable display of talent and passion, igniting a fire of inspiration in every spectator’s soul and reminding all of the lasting impact of great teachers like Mr. Modi.
