Brews & Books Café by Keekli – Discover Shimla’s First Book Café

Are you a book lover who enjoys spending hours reading with a hot cup of coffee? Look no further than Brews & Books Café, Shimla’s first book café, brought to you by Keekli Book Club. Joining him was Ms MINAKSHI CHAUDHRY, celebrated author of over 20 books including the bestselling Ghost Stories of Shimla Hills, who has now penned a new series of books for children and young adults.

The first three books of the series titled: S.H.I.M.L.A. Investigators—Murder on the Bicycle Trail; Scandal! At Scandal Point and A Treacherous Beauty Contest—were released here today. The books were released by young readers, Ms Aahr Singh, Master Stavya Pandit and Ms Prachi on the occasion of the launch of Brews and Books, the first book cafe in the town.

“I am happy that the books have been released by the children who love to read. I am sure the series will be liked by the young and the old alike,” Minakshi said.

The three books are based in Shimla town. This series features a team of six—two girls, three boys and a monkey—who solve crimes, mysteries and cases which even the police cannot crack.

Minakshi Chaudhry has also planned an exciting initiative with Keekli Charitable Trust. This new project titled Keekli’s Angels is about co-authorship and mentoring programme for budding authors. This joint initiative aims to groom children in the art of creative writing, while giving them an opportunity to co-author a book.  Minakshi said, “Shimla, the queen of hills and one of the main tourist attractions of the country, is the perfect setting for this series with snowy winters, misty monsoons, fragrant spring, warm summers and colourful autumn. Mystery tales come alive in the ambiance of the high Himalayan mountains, tall trees, winding hill tracks and dark woods.”

An Art Wall for Artists to Showcase and Sell their Work

Brews & Books Café also features an art wall where artists can showcase and sell their work. The pieces showcased here are from Mr Dinesh Attry, a young artist from a little village called Kunr in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh. Dinesh’s art career started as a sketch artist sitting beside a lake making portraits of any person passing by, who wanted their image etched on paper.

You can join the Keekli Book Club by paying a one-time annual fee of Rs 1,000/-. If you opt for the Rs 2,500/- or Rs 5,000/- membership, you can reserve the café for one-hour sessions four or six times a year, respectively, subject to the availability of dates.
