In a significant step toward enhancing campus safety and disaster preparedness, Auckland House School for Boys has become the first school in Shimla to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DOERS (Development of Environment and Eco-Friendly Resilience Society), a leading NGO specializing in disaster risk reduction and emergency response training.

The initiative, led by Principal Reuben John, reflects the school’s commitment to creating a safe and resilient learning environment. “Education is our mission, but safety is the foundation on which it stands. A secure school environment is essential for every student, staff member, and visitor,” Principal John emphasized during the signing ceremony.

The collaboration follows a successful disaster management session conducted by DOERS at the school last year. Encouraged by its impact, the school leadership decided to move beyond awareness sessions and adopt a long-term, structured approach to integrate safety and resilience into school culture.

Through this MoU, Auckland House School for Boys and DOERS will jointly implement comprehensive training programs for students, teachers, and non-teaching staff, focusing on practical preparedness for both natural and human-made disasters. The initiative also supports the broader framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to quality education, good health and well-being, and sustainable communities.

Based in Himachal Pradesh, DOERS is a respected NGO with a strong presence in disaster preparedness, climate resilience, and emergency response. Known for its community-focused simulations and partnerships with government bodies, DOERS has empowered thousands across the state through hands-on training and awareness campaigns.

This partnership marks a forward-thinking model for other educational institutions looking to build resilient and safety-conscious school communities.
