CM Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed the Agriculture Department to link detailed data of farmers practicing natural farming with the Him Parivar Portal by 20 January 2026. Chairing a meeting of the Agriculture Department, he said this would help create and map a block-level database of natural farming practitioners across the state.
The Chief Minister said that youth would be encouraged to adopt natural farming to strengthen the rural economy. Promoting natural farming on a large scale would boost farmers’ income and bring transformative changes to the agriculture sector, he added. He also announced that he would interact with farmers associated with natural farming at a conference to be held later this month in Hamirpur.
Reviewing issues related to crops such as wheat, maize and raw turmeric produced through natural farming, the Chief Minister said that wheat flour is being marketed under the brand ‘Him Chakki Atta’, maize flour as ‘Him Bhog Makki Atta’ and raw turmeric as ‘Him Haldi’. He directed that expiry dates and nutritional information must be clearly displayed on all product packets and instructed the formation of a special unit to assess nutritional content.
He informed that 606.8 metric tonnes of naturally grown maize have been procured so far, with Rs. 2.31 crore transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts. Similarly, 2,123 quintals of naturally grown wheat have been procured at the Minimum Support Price, benefiting farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Highlighting the success of the support price of Rs. 90 per kg for naturally grown raw turmeric, the Chief Minister said that procurement of around 2,422 quintals from 1,629 farmers is estimated this year. He added that the Agriculture Department is also producing various crops using natural farming methods on 25 departmental farms across the state.
Emphasizing the need for better marketing of natural farming products, the Chief Minister called for focused efforts in this direction. Agriculture Minister Prof. Chander Kumar also offered valuable suggestions during the meeting.
