CM Pushes for New Townships Near Chandigarh

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presided over a meeting of the Himachal Pradesh Housing and Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA) to review various ongoing and proposed housing projects across the State. He directed the Authority to explore the development of new townships near Chandigarh to cater to the growing housing demand and provide better residential options for the people of Himachal Pradesh.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of the proposed Jathiya Devi Township near Shimla and instructed HIMUDA to appoint a consultant at the earliest to expedite the project. He said that the Jathiya Devi Satellite Town would help decongest Shimla city while providing modern amenities and quality infrastructure to residents. It was informed that TATA Engineering Services Company has prepared the township’s blueprint, keeping in mind the area’s natural beauty and ensuring world-class facilities.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister announced the release of ₹20 crore for the upcoming commercial complex at Vikasnagar, Shimla, to accelerate construction. He stated that the complex would be one of the city’s most modern buildings, housing government offices, a shopping centre, and other essential facilities.

Sukhu further directed HIMUDA officials to fast-track all ongoing housing projects across the State and ensure their timely completion for the benefit of the people.

The meeting was attended by Town and Country Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani, HIMUDA Vice Chairman Yashwant Chhajta, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) K.K. Pant, Principal Secretary (Finance) Devesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer (HIMUDA) Surender Vashisht, Director (Town and Country Planning) Hemis Negi, and other senior officers.
