Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu interacted with doctors at Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College to discuss ways to further strengthen healthcare services in Himachal Pradesh. The dialogue aimed to listen to the medical fraternity’s concerns and suggestions, building on similar sessions held earlier at IGMC Shimla and Tanda Medical College to enhance policy decisions and patient care.

The Chief Minister observed that state medical colleges largely function as referral institutions and emphasized the need for systemic improvements to ensure quality healthcare is accessible locally. He reiterated the government’s commitment to upgrading infrastructure by introducing advanced medical technology in government hospitals.

He announced that an automated laboratory costing Rs. 25 crore has been approved for Hamirpur Medical College to strengthen diagnostic services. Plans are also underway for a Super Specialty Block, a Dental College, and robotic surgery services, marking a major step toward advanced medical care in the region. All modern equipment will be installed and operational before shifting to the new facilities.

During his visit, the Chief Minister also inspected the ongoing construction of a state-of-the-art Cancer Care Centre and announced that a modern cancer hospital, along with nursing and dental colleges, will be developed at the Hamirpur Medical College campus at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,000 crore. Eleven new specialist departments have been approved for the cancer hospital, covering medical and surgical oncology, pediatric oncology, women’s cancers, radiation therapy, stem cell and bone marrow transplants, nuclear medicine, pathology, radiology, anesthesia and critical care, and pain and supportive care.

With all these services available in one location, cancer patients in Himachal Pradesh will no longer need to travel outside the state for advanced treatment, saving both time and cost while receiving specialized care closer to home.

Highlighting the rising incidence of cancer, the Chief Minister stressed the need for systematic screening, prevention, monitoring, recording, and timely diagnosis. In this context, the State Government has approved the establishment of a State Cancer Centre at Hamirpur Medical College.

He added that since taking office, the government has undertaken several measures to revamp the healthcare sector, ensuring improved and better medical services across the state. Several public representatives, senior doctors, and district officials were present during the visit.
