Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday voiced concern over the prolonged delay in the CBI investigation into the death of Vimal Negi. He pointed out that nearly a year has passed since the probe began, yet no concrete findings have been made public regarding the alleged link to the Pekhuwala project.
Speaking during the budget debate in the State Assembly, Sukhu subtly addressed the Opposition, particularly Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur. He remarked that despite the BJP’s vociferous protests following Negi’s death, the investigating agency has not delivered any substantial report so far.
The Chief Minister underlined that even after the CBI took over the case almost a year ago, no final conclusions or detailed report have emerged. He described the matter as sensitive and urged the Opposition to clarify its stand, emphasizing that the government has nothing to hide. Observers interpreted his remarks as a challenge to the BJP to stick to facts instead of relying on speculation.
Outside the Assembly, developments in the case have been minimal. The CBI recently called former Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Gandhi for questioning, but no arrests have been made. The slow pace of the investigation has drawn criticism, especially given the political tension surrounding the case.
The Vimal Negi death case continues to stir controversy in Himachal Pradesh, with the Opposition demanding answers while the ruling government points to the lack of progress in the central agency’s probe.
