CM Sukhu has urged universities across Himachal Pradesh to focus their research on solving the state’s pressing challenges and emerging needs. Speaking at an academic conclave on the future priorities of private universities in Solan, the Chief Minister emphasized that research in key areas like climate change, water conservation, disaster management, sustainable tourism, healthcare, and renewable energy is vital for safeguarding Himachal’s interests.

The conclave was organized by the Himachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission in collaboration with state private universities.

Highlighting the role of higher education in state development, CM Sukhu described private universities as key strategic partners. He stressed the importance of industry-academic collaboration and urged institutions to continuously update their curricula to match evolving market demands, ensuring better employment and entrepreneurship avenues for the youth.

The Chief Minister also noted significant strides in the state’s education sector, revealing that Himachal Pradesh has jumped from 21st place in 2021 to 5th place nationally in education quality. To further bolster foundational learning, the government is establishing Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools and transitioning government schools to the CBSE curriculum, with 156 schools already affiliated and 100 more planned for next year.

During an interactive session with students, CM Sukhu encouraged them to adopt a mindset focused on self-reliance and sustainable resource management. He also visited an exhibition displaying research projects and patents developed by private university students.

Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil and Regulatory Commission Member Vijay Pal Singh were also present at the event, encouraging students to set clear goals and highlighting the commission’s roadmap for educational excellence.
