CM Sukhu Empowering Himachal Pradesh’s Apple Industry

Education Minister, Rohit Thakur, and Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Mohan Lal Brakta, had all praise for Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for his landmark decisions to revolutionize the apple industry in Himachal Pradesh and additionally add to the economy of the orchardists.

They said that the Chief Minister’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the apple growers was evident from the remarkable decision of increasing the support price of apples from Rs. 10.50 to Rs.12.  Besides, the decision to introduce per kilogram-based sale system for apples, replacing the traditional box-based method, will pave the way for streamlining the marketing process besides enhancing the transparency while selling the produce, said Rohit Thakur, thus fulfilling a longstanding demand of the growers.

In light of the severe crisis stemming from this year’s calamity, the government has substantially increased the relief amount granted to farmers and horticulturists. Additionally, the government has reinstated subsidized pesticide purchases for apple growers, said the duo. The state government’s initiative to strengthen the Chhaila to Yashwant Nagar road via Neri Bridge with an outlay of Rs. 70 crore from the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), will  ensure smooth transportation of apple produce thus alleviating challenges faced by orchardists, remarked the duo and thanked the Chief Minister for the same.

Additionally, the proposal to establish Controlled Atmosphere (CA) stores at strategic locations such as Bhawanagar, Sandasu, Anu, Chopal, Jabli, Sundernagar, Duttnagar, and Kharapathar highlights the government’s commitment to advancing post-harvest storage capabilities. The Chief Minister’s forward-thinking approach is evident in his vision to establish a distillery, converting substandard apples into valuable resources, empowering growers to derive benefits even in adverse circumstances.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur and CPS Mohan Lal Brakta also praised the exemplary leadership of Chief Minister during the calamity that the state witnessed. The Minister also thanked the government for releasing Rs. 50 crore to clear the blocked roads in apple belts to ensure smooth transportation of apples to markets.
