Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, addressing a gathering at Paddal Ground, Mandi, emphasized that “Atmanirbhar Himachal” is the government’s passion and commitment, not merely a slogan. He announced that financial assistance for disaster-affected families would be increased from Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 1 lakh, citing the state’s efforts to support citizens despite limited resources.
CM Sukhu highlighted that the state had adopted 6,000 orphan children and was providing higher education support for widows’ children. The compensation for fully damaged houses has been raised from Rs. 1.30 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh, and partially damaged houses now receive Rs. 1 lakh, reflecting the government’s concern for citizens’ welfare.
Criticizing the BJP for politicizing relief efforts, he noted that despite promises from the Centre, Himachal Pradesh has yet to receive the announced Rs. 1,500 crore in aid. He urged the Union Government to approve rehabilitation of disaster-affected families on forest land and reaffirmed the state’s readiness to pursue this at the highest level.
The Chief Minister also showcased government achievements in strengthening the rural economy, education, and healthcare. Milk prices were increased, and procurement of locally grown wheat, maize, barley, and turmeric was undertaken to enhance farmers’ incomes. Robotic surgeries have been introduced at Tanda and Chamiyana hospitals, with plans to expand such facilities across medical colleges.
Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi criticized the Centre for discriminatory relief measures, while Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani praised the Chief Minister’s hands-on approach in helping disaster-affected families. MLA Chander Shekhar emphasized the state’s quick response to recent natural disasters and the need for environmental conservation.
CM Sukhu reaffirmed his dedication to the welfare of Himachal Pradesh, asserting that the government is working relentlessly to make the state truly self-reliant while supporting citizens in times of crisis.
