CM Urges Quick Forest Clearances for Development Projects

In a recent review meeting held by the Forest Department, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized the necessity of expediting forest clearance cases to kickstart flagship initiatives like the Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools and heliports, among other development projects. He urged officials to prioritize these projects, aiming to promptly benefit the people of the State.

Sukhu highlighted the green light received for a proposed Zoological Park at Bankhandi in Kangra district, designed to meet international standards. The Chief Minister stressed the need for immediate preparations and the hiring of an international-level consultant to ensure the park’s global excellence and a remarkable experience for tourists.

Regarding ecotourism endeavors, Sukhu announced upcoming advertisements to attract key private players in the sector. Private companies will be awarded ecotourism sites both individually and in clusters, fostering revenue generation and local employment. The Chief Minister reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to boosting ecotourism, a pivotal sector for the state’s economy.

Sukhu also addressed the monsoon-induced challenge of uprooted trees, directing the Forest Department to promptly remove and dispose of salvage trees. He underscored the significance of finalizing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for tree enumeration, extraction, and disposal to minimize revenue loss.

Additionally, the Chief Minister emphasized afforestation initiatives and held officers accountable for planted tree survival. The meeting saw the presence of key figures including Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, MLA Bhawani Singh Pathania, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, and several other high-ranking officials.
