Applauding, he emphasized the importance of platforms that honor women overcoming challenges, stating, “This event embodies the spirit of empowerment, and I am proud to be a part of it for the second time.”
Focus on Tribal Women’s Rights
The Chief Minister acknowledged the relentless efforts of Ratan Manjari from Kinnaur, who has been advocating for women’s rights in tribal areas where legal disparities persist. He affirmed his support for gender equality and stated that the government is actively working to build consensus on the issue. “Depriving anyone of their rights is unacceptable. Once consensus is achieved, we will take the necessary steps to amend the laws,” he assured.
Initiatives for Children and Education
Sh. Sukhu reflected on his progressive approach since assuming office, such as visiting Balika Ashram instead of the Secretariat. Under his leadership, Himachal became the first state to adopt orphan children as “Children of the State,” ensuring their complete care. Provisions for financing higher education for 23,000 children of widows until the age of 27 have also been introduced.
Highlighting the Dr. YS Parmar Student Loan Scheme, he noted that meritorious students can avail loans of up to ₹20 lakh at a nominal interest rate of 1%. He also urged the youth to adopt healthier lifestyles.
Climate and Education Reforms
The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s vision to make Himachal a green energy state by March 31, 2026, as part of its commitment to environmental sustainability for future generations. Additionally, five Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools are under construction, with others to follow in phases. Efforts are underway to revitalize the education system, which saw a decline during the previous government’s tenure.
