Governor Kavinder Gupta today graced the annual day celebration of Himachal Dental College, underscoring that innovation, skill and knowledge will shape a strong and self-reliant India, with youth playing the central role in nation-building.
Speaking at the event, the Governor highlighted that dentistry is rapidly evolving with the support of modern technology, digital tools and artificial intelligence, opening new horizons for young professionals. He urged students to embrace these advancements while staying rooted in values of service and compassion.
He lauded the institution for its consistent contribution in academics, research, community outreach and public health awareness. According to him, the real strength of any educational institute lies not just in producing qualified professionals, but in shaping responsible citizens committed to society.
The Governor stressed that oral health is closely linked to overall well-being and called upon budding dental professionals to extend quality healthcare services to remote and underserved regions. He also appreciated the college’s regular initiatives such as free dental camps, awareness drives against tobacco use, and mobile healthcare services.
Marking a key highlight of the occasion, he inaugurated a new state-of-the-art dental van, aimed at strengthening outreach services in rural areas of Himachal Pradesh.
Students who excelled in academics and sports at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels were felicitated during the ceremony. The event also came alive with cultural performances including Saraswati Vandana, traditional Nati and energetic Bhangra.
Principal Dr. Baljeet Singh shared the annual report, noting that the college has been actively running “treatment at your doorstep” programmes since 1993. He informed that 46 dental camps were conducted last year, benefiting over 6,000 people, with more than 800 patients treated through the mobile dental unit.
The institution has also earned recognition from the Indian Dental Association for community service and from the International College of Dentists for its humanitarian contributions. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Vikas Jindal.
