Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh inaugurated a series of development projects worth nearly Rs. 2 crore in the Chaupal Assembly constituency, marking a significant step towards strengthening rural infrastructure and improving basic civic amenities in the region. The projects are expected to accelerate grassroots development and enhance the delivery of public services in rural areas.
Among the key works inaugurated were the newly constructed Panchayat Bhawans at Garha, Pandrada and Baghar Chowki, each completed at a cost of about Rs. 33 lakh. In addition, upgradation works were carried out at Panchayat Bhawans in Bamta and Paudia, while a Sarai building was constructed in Gram Panchayat Paudia at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh. Other completed projects included the upgradation of the BDO office building at Chaupal, construction of a cyclone shelter-cum-community building at Gram Panchayat Thana, development works at Panchayat Ghar Balghar and the establishment of a Jan Suvidha Kendra, together contributing to improved administrative and community infrastructure.
Addressing a public gathering, the Minister said the State Government is firmly committed to the holistic development of rural areas, with priority being given to both infrastructure expansion and the effective implementation of welfare schemes. He informed that the government has decided to construct uniform Panchayat Bhawans across Himachal Pradesh, with provisions of up to Rs. 1.14 crore per building on land measuring more than 10 biswa, to ensure standardised and well-equipped facilities at the grassroots level.
The Minister said that Rs. 40 crore had been spent on the construction of Panchayat Bhawans during the previous financial year, while Rs. 45 crore has already been released in the current year. He also highlighted that name plaques on Panchayat Bhawans now include the names of Panchayat Pradhans, Up-Pradhans and land donors, recognising their contributions and encouraging community participation in development initiatives.
Reaffirming his commitment to Chaupal’s progress, Anirudh Singh said no effort would be spared in ensuring the constituency’s comprehensive development. He praised the effective plastic waste management initiatives undertaken in Chaupal, describing them as a model for other regions, and urged residents to actively participate in development activities for sustained growth.
The Minister also expressed concern over what he described as attempts by the Central Government to weaken the MGNREGA scheme, stating that such measures adversely affect rural livelihoods. During the programme, he inspected stalls set up by self-help groups and appreciated their efforts, and also released the annual calendar of the Churdhar Temple Committee along with a booklet highlighting major tourist destinations of the Chaupal region.
As part of his visit, the Minister led a block-level anti-drug walkathon, which saw enthusiastic participation from youth, women’s groups, self-help groups and representatives of various organisations. Emphasising that building a drug-free society is a priority of the State Government, he called upon young people to stay away from substance abuse and play a positive role in society. On the occasion, participants were administered a pledge to support a drug-free Himachal.
The programme also featured cultural performances by local artists and a street play by women from self-help groups highlighting the message of drug de-addiction. HPCC General Secretary Rajnish Kimta welcomed the Minister and apprised him of various local issues, reflecting active engagement between the government and the community.
