Loreto Convent Tara Hall School, Upper Kaithu, hosted a comprehensive Awareness Workshop and Interactive Session on the Prevention of Drug Abuse and Substance Consumption on Friday. Organized under the direction of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Regional Office, Panchkula, the event was conducted in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Ministry of Home Affairs.

The event was graced by Chief Guest Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Regional Officer (CBSE, Panchkula), along with Bhushan Lal, Assistant Secretary (CBSE Sub-Regional Office, Shimla). Kundu, Intelligence Officer from the NCB Chandigarh Zonal Unit, served as the key resource person, delivering an insightful presentation on the critical dimensions of substance abuse and preventive measures.

Out of 70 invited institutions, 42 CBSE-affiliated and PM SHRI schools across the Shimla district actively participated. The gathering of nearly 300 attendees included Principals, senior educators, school counselors, and student delegates from Classes XI and XII.

The primary aim of the initiative was to educate students about the multi-dimensional hazards—physical, psychological, social, and academic—associated with drug abuse. Discussions focused on empowering youth to make responsible life choices, effectively resist peer pressure, and build a positive lifestyle.

A major highlight of the event was an open Q&A session where students, teachers, and administrators actively engaged with the NCB expert. Kundu addressed real-world concerns and offered practical solutions, making the workshop exceptionally engaging and practical. The discussion emphasized that eradicating substance abuse demands a united effort from educators, families, and society at large.

Sister Apolina, Secretary of the School Management, along with Principal Ritu Sharma, Headmistress Monika Sharma, and the school faculty, warmly received the dignitaries and delegates.

In her closing address, Principal Ritu Sharma urged students to become catalysts for positive change by rejecting drugs and spreading awareness within their communities. She underscored the pivotal responsibility schools hold in shaping aware, health-conscious citizens.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Richa Chauhan, who expressed deep gratitude to the Chief Guest, CBSE and NCB officials, and all visiting school delegations for their active participation and support.
