Exhibition at Gaiety from 01st September to commemorate 150th Birth Anniversary of Nicholas Roerich

The International Centre of the Roerichs (ICR), Moscow, Russia in collaboration with International Memorial Trust Naggar District Kullu and Department of Language and Culture Himachal Pradesh is organising an Exhibition titled ‘Master’s Universe’ at Lalit Kala Art Gallery, Gaiety Theatre Shimla from September 1 to 25, 2024 to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of the renowned Russian Artist, thinker and peacemaker Nicholas Roerich.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri to be special guest on the occasion.

Nicholas Roerich was not only an artist, but he was also a famous writer and thinker. Nicholas Roerich had made a significant contribution towards the preservation of cultural barns. He traveled many arts in his life studying the Himalayan culture. Nicholas Roerich spent about 20 years of his life in Himachal Pradesh.

On April 15, 1935, 21 countries signed a treaty under the name “Roerich Pact” for the protection of cultural heritage. It is well known that the “Roerich Pact” was an international treaty designed to protect and preserve cultural heritage for the future generations. He wrote extensively on the subject of tradition and culture, and was one of the first prominent people to explore the protection of the Kullu valley’s cultural heritage.

He was of the opinion that the only way to achieve peace and resolution to global conflicts is through a culture that instils the value of respect and understanding amonth the younger generation. This exhibition will be a centre of attraction for tourists, school students, locals and art lovers.
