Himachal Pradesh is swiftly transforming from the ‘Dev Bhoomi’ to ‘Khel Bhoomi’, as the state government intensifies efforts to build world-class sports infrastructure under the leadership of CM Sukhu.
A key highlight of this transformation is the upcoming multi-purpose sports complex in Kharedi, Nadaun (Hamirpur), being developed at a cost of ₹65 crore. This advanced facility will include:
-
8-lane swimming pool
-
Shooting range
-
Wrestling and boxing arenas
-
Kabaddi and yoga centres
-
Modern setups for table tennis and badminton
Alongside, a 100-bed sports hostel is being established at Luhnu, Bilaspur, and infrastructure is being upgraded at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Shimla). Indoor stadiums and new sports facilities are under development in Solan, Reckong Peo, Haroli, and Jaisinghpur, with synthetic tracks in Hamirpur and Sujanpur for high-performance training.
To support athletes holistically, the government has:
-
Increased diet allowances to ₹250–₹500 per day
-
Provided ₹76.98 lakh to 421 athletes under the diet scheme
-
Offered travel support up to air fare; ₹6.01 lakh has been disbursed to 235 athletes
In a student-friendly move, athletes participating in state or national events will now be marked ‘present on special leave’—ensuring no academic penalty for sporting pursuits.
Recognizing sporting achievements, the government has awarded ₹14.77 crore to 21 international medalists and ₹44 lakh to other outstanding performers.
This integrated approach—spanning infrastructure, nutrition, travel, education, and recognition—is turning Himachal into a model state for sports development, empowering young athletes to thrive nationally and globally.
