In a strong message underscoring cultural rootedness amid rapid development, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today stressed the need for modernization without losing India’s traditional identity. Speaking at the Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony of Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV), Shimla, he noted that while embracing progress was vital, complete immersion into western culture should be avoided. “Radical overhaul distances us from our cultural and natural identity. We should adopt modernity while preserving our inherent character,” he said.

Addressing students and faculty, the Governor praised RKMV for its outstanding academic record and its growing role in promoting women’s empowerment. He highlighted that India’s growth trajectory is strengthened by the contributions and confidence of its daughters. “When women are respected and empowered, society and the nation flourish,” he remarked, applauding the institution for fostering leadership across science, arts, technology, administration, research and social outreach.

The Governor encouraged students to keep pace with new technologies, innovation, research and environmental protection while staying rooted in values and social responsibility. Referring to recent international appreciation of India’s leadership, he emphasized the importance of national confidence and dedication, stating that citizens thrive when the nation is secure.

He expressed satisfaction that RKMV remains the state’s only college formally registered with the Youth Red Cross, demonstrating its commitment to humanitarian service, compassion and community engagement. Commending the college’s sustained stance against drug abuse—especially its notable Anti-Chitta Campaign—he also praised the impactful street play performed by students on the issue.

The Governor concluded by recognizing RKMV’s effective implementation of the National Education Policy and its emergence as a model institution. He lauded the college for providing a strong platform to students from rural and tribal backgrounds, reinforcing its mission of inclusive and equitable education.
