Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has called upon all the people to adopt Swadeshi in every walk of life to build a self-reliant India. He said that along with adopting indigenous products, the people should also come forward to motivate others to do the same. He was speaking as the chief guest at the one-day workshop organized on the topic ‘Role of Mathematician Radhanath Sikdar in India’s Freedom Struggle’ in the series of programmes of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and the closing ceremony of various activities which lasted for a month under it. This programme was organized by Vigyan Bharati in association with Union Ministry of Culture in association with Central University Dharamshala and Government Degree College Dharamshala at Trigart Auditorium, Dharamshala in district Kangra. The Governor said that we have the ability to guide the whole world while moving ahead on the path of India’s rich tradition and knowledge. “It is necessary that we create and awaken our ‘Self’.

No one will stop us from moving ahead with the awakening of ‘Self-Language, Country, History, Tradition and Culture” he said. Arlekar said that history was witness that all the invaders attacked the ‘self’ of India. They destroyed our way of life so that we could not come forward as a nation, but now history was turning, he added. He said that there was a need to show direction to the younger generation. They need to be told what achievements have been made by our great ancestors like Mathematician Radhanath Sikdar. He appreciated Vigyan Bharati and the entire organizing committee for organizing this mega event. The Governor felicitated 7 mountaineers of Himachal Pradesh who scaled Mount Everest and were specially invited in the programme including ITBP DIG Prem Singh, BSF Assistant Commandant Ravi Kant Negi, ITBP Chief Constable Pradeep besides Radha Devi, Dikki Dolma, Baljit Kaur and Praveen. On this occasion, the Governor also honoured the winners of the month-long competitions. A short film on the life and works of India’s great mathematician Radhanath Sikdar was also screened on the occasion alongwith a film prepared on the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Dr. Anil D. Sahasrabuddhe, former President of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and currently Professor of IIT Guwahati, delivered a key-note address on the contribution of great Indian personalities in the field of science. He said that science has spread all over the world from India itself. He mentioned the contribution of scientific genius in the upliftment of India. He urged all the people to protect the environment and move forward by adopting scientific inventions in a proper manner in life to make India a world leader again. National Secretary, Vigyan Bharti Praveen Ramdas said that Vigyan Bharti was working to awaken the society regarding scientific notions of ancient India and to create a sense of pride among the people regarding the contribution of the scientists of our country. Professor Shashi Kumar Dhiman, Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh Technical University, in his address called upon everyone to move forward in the direction of science. He expressed confidence that India will guide the world by attaining its ancient glory in Amritkal. Director of the Union Ministry of Culture Priyanka Chandra said that a series of programmes have been organized across the country by the Ministry during the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. So far, more than one lakh programmes have been organized with public participation, she added.
