In a concerted effort to foster sustainable industrial development and enhance resource efficiency in the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector, a Stakeholder Consultation Workshop was recently organized under the Greening of MSMEs initiative in Solan district. The event saw active participation from entrepreneurs and industry leaders, particularly from the key industrial zones of Baddi and Nalagarh.

Jointly facilitated by Frost & Sullivan and Tinge Consultancy, the workshop provided in-depth training and awareness on crucial topics including energy conservation, waste management, water recycling, green financing, and resource-efficient cleaner production (RECP). Experts shared practical strategies for optimizing production processes using fewer resources while ensuring environmental compliance.

The Greening of MSMEs initiative is part of the Government of India’s RAMP (Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance) program, supported by the World Bank. It aims to technically and financially empower MSMEs, making them more competitive, efficient, and environmentally responsible. As part of this program, around 1,900 MSMEs in Himachal Pradesh are expected to be integrated into the greening framework.

Participants were also introduced to emerging industrial concepts such as Net Zero, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) frameworks, Circular Economy, and Decarbonization. The session included insights into existing green financing schemes, connections to technical solution providers, and demonstrations of digital monitoring systems for real-time sustainability tracking.

Looking ahead, over 2,500 enterprises in the state are set to undergo specialized training on energy efficiency, green practices, and financing mechanisms, aligning with the Himachal Pradesh Government’s vision of becoming a Green Energy State by 2026. This move also supports India’s larger commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070.

Speaking at the workshop, Tilak Raj Sharma, Additional Director, Department of Industries, highlighted that “Greening of MSMEs is not merely an environmental effort, but a transformative shift in industrial mindset.” He emphasized that the initiative will play a vital role in strengthening MSME competitiveness while fostering environmental responsibility.

The workshop served as a platform not just for knowledge sharing but also for empowerment, offering entrepreneurs actionable guidance and access to financial and technical resources to drive sustainable growth within their enterprises.
