The Himachal Pradesh government has signed implementation agreements for 19 hydropower projects with a combined capacity of 278 MW, attracting an estimated investment of around ₹3,336 crore during the current year.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu congratulated the energy department for the achievement, stating that the state is focused on harnessing its vast hydropower potential.
The projects include Soyal Dashal, Khauli-II, Gramang, Umli, Bharmour Stage-I & II, Harsar Stage-II & III, Tundah Stage-II, Janglik, Rupin Stage-II, Dunali-I & II, Jari, Toral Kundli, Tundan, Kot Dogri, Upper Kurmi, Kalal Khol and Melan hydroelectric projects.
The government has also cancelled 15 previously allotted power projects due to lack of progress from developers, and is now planning to invite international bids for faster execution.
Officials said the state has revised its hydro policy, including a uniform 12% royalty for projects up to 25 MW for 40 years, to strengthen sectoral growth and ensure better returns for the state.
The Chief Minister informed that the 150 MW Tidong Stage-I project has been completed, and an MoU has been signed for geothermal energy development. He added that out of an estimated 24,000 MW hydropower potential, projects of over 12,588 MW have already been completed, while several others are under construction or approval.
The government reiterated that all agreements are being signed while safeguarding the state’s long-term interests.
