HP CM Sukhu chaired the state-level World Environment Day celebrations at Peterhoff, Shimla, reaffirming the government’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection.
Organized jointly by the Department of Environment, Science & Technology and Climate Change and HIMCOSTE, the event witnessed the launch of the ‘Single-Use Plastic Challan Mobile App‘, enabling digital issuance of challans for plastic-related violations.
In a landmark move to discourage single-use plastic, the Chief Minister announced the distribution of six lakh stainless steel water bottles to school students across the state. “This is not just a symbolic gesture but a step towards instilling environmental consciousness among the youth,” he said.
Reiterating the state’s commitment, CM Sukhu emphasized that Himachal Pradesh is on course to become a ‘Green Energy State’ by March 31, 2026, with focus areas including solar energy, green mobility, and forest conservation. He also renewed the demand for a ‘Green Bonus’ from the Central Government in recognition of the state’s ecological efforts.

Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena provided updates on strategic environmental plans, including climate adaptation, green cover enhancement, and the Deposit Refund Scheme to hold plastic producers accountable.
Director of the Department, D.C. Rana, welcomed the dignitaries and presented a summary of ongoing and upcoming projects.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, MLAs Sanjay Awasthi and Harish Janartha, Mayor Surinder Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, and senior administrative and environmental officials.
