During the visit, Minister Jagat Singh Negi emphasized the state government’s intention to explore cannabis cultivation for its economic potential and its various applications in industries and medicine. The committee sought technical information and guidance from experts in the field to ensure a comprehensive understanding of cannabis cultivation.
Aromatic Plant Center’s Contribution and Growth Potential
The committee received a virtual presentation from the Director of the Aromatic Plant Center, Nripendra Chauhan, who shared insights into the technical aspects of cannabis cultivation. He highlighted the substantial growth potential of the industrial hemp market, projecting an increase from approximately Rs 5,600 crore in 2022 to about Rs 15,000 crore by 2027.
Information Gathering and Drafting Legalization Framework
In addition to learning about cannabis cultivation, the committee gathered information on advanced plant nurseries, medicinal plant cultivation, and aromatic flower production at the center. The members of the committee also discussed a draft proposal prepared by the Plant Center to legalize cannabis cultivation in the state.

To ensure a well-rounded approach, the committee plans to gather information from farmers in Uttarakhand who have experience cultivating cannabis. Their insights and experiences will play a crucial role in shaping the government’s decisions and policies regarding cannabis cultivation.
