In a move aimed at strengthening public healthcare services, the Government of Himachal Pradesh has authorized Rogi Kalyan Samitis (RKS) across the state to levy user charges and implement a nominal consultation fee. This decision follows recommendations made by the Cabinet Sub-Committee on RKS.

According to an official communication from the Department of Medical Education, RKS units at various levels are now permitted to collect user charges on a need basis for services such as sanitation, hygiene, infrastructure maintenance, and equipment upkeep. Additionally, a consultation fee of ₹10 will be charged from each patient at the time of hospital registration.

The directive, issued with the approval of the Competent Authority, instructs all relevant departments, including the Directors of Medical Education and Health Services, as well as the Mission Director of the National Health Mission, to initiate necessary actions under intimation to the Department.

The order has also been circulated to all Government Medical Colleges, Chief Medical Officers, and Medical Superintendents across the state.

This decision is expected to enhance the operational efficiency and service quality of healthcare institutions under the RKS framework, ensuring better patient care and sustainability of resources.
