Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh addressed the media today, detailing efforts to restore roads obstructed due to the 23rd December, 2024 snowfall.
Key Highlights of Road Restoration Efforts
- Approximately 350 roads were obstructed.
- 268 machines deployed, including:
- 70 JCBs
- 13 Robos
- 13 Bulldozers
- 76 Tippers
- 96 Other Machines
- 235 roads restored as of today.
- Remaining roads expected to be cleared by 25th December; the rest in 2-3 days.
Ensuring Convenience for Tourists
Minister Vikramaditya Singh emphasized that Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is committed to making Himachal Pradesh a premier tourist destination. With heavy snowfall attracting thousands of tourists:
- Public Works Department (PWD) is actively working to ensure smooth travel.
- Virtual meetings have been conducted with PWD officials to expedite road clearance and repair.
Central Road Fund (CRF) Allocation
- ₹110 crore allocated under the Central Road Fund (CRF) for 2024-25.
- Additional ₹50 crore required to complete various road projects.
- Minister Singh plans to request further support from the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways.
