CM Sukhu, while presiding over the CII Himachal Pradesh Annual Conference in Shimla on Thursday, called on industry leaders to invest in tourism, food processing, and IT sectors. The conference, themed “Building a Future-Ready Himachal Pradesh: Harnessing Local Strengths for Global Competitiveness,” highlighted the state’s potential for sustainable industrial growth.
Sukhu said the government is promoting green industries suited to Himachal Pradesh’s unique geography and environment, and assured investors of full support and facilitation. He added that the state plans to invest Rs. 3,000 crore in tourism and is developing heliports at district headquarters and major tourist spots. Heli-taxi services have already started, and the expansion of Kangra airport is underway.
The Chief Minister stressed that harassment of industrialists would not be tolerated, and grievances could be directly reported to him. He also spoke about the upcoming Bulk Drug Park at Haroli, Una district, offering incentives to investors. To streamline approvals, the government is improving the single-window clearance system, ensuring all industrial permissions are accessible in one place.
Noting that many industries are situated near state borders, Sukhu said the government is enhancing infrastructure in these regions. Projects include underground utility ducts in Baddi, power load management in industrial zones, and the state bearing half the cost, including land acquisition, to extend railway connectivity to Baddi for industries linked to BBMB.
Sukhu also highlighted Himachal Pradesh’s role as the “lungs of North India” and a “water bowl,” lamenting the discontinuation of Revenue Deficit Grants under Article 275(1). The government is working to restore this support.
Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan praised Sukhu’s focus on resource mobilization and resilience in handling natural disasters and the political challenges of 2024. He noted that disaster-affected families are still awaiting Rs. 1,500 crore in assistance from the Centre.
Chauhan added that Himachal Pradesh offers a conducive environment for industries, with reliable power and strong law and order. He also encouraged the “buy local” campaign, stressing that supporting local products strengthens the economy, protects livelihoods, and builds a self-reliant Himachal Pradesh.
