The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed as ‘Anti-Chitta Day’ across Himachal Pradesh as part of the state-wide Anti-Chitta Movement launched by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in November 2025, aimed at building a “Chitta-free Himachal.”
On the occasion, Himachal Pradesh Police carried out the scientific disposal of narcotic substances seized under the NDPS Act at ten locations across the state. Drugs worth an estimated ₹13.28 crore in the international market were destroyed in a coordinated statewide operation—reportedly the first of its kind in the state.
The drive, conducted under the supervision of Chief Secretary Kamlesh Kumar Pant, reinforced the government’s zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and sent a strong message to drug networks operating in the region.
Authorities said the focus of the campaign is to protect youth from synthetic drugs like “Chitta” through awareness, prevention, and community participation involving schools, colleges, panchayats, and families.
Drug Prevention Committee meetings were held in vulnerable panchayats, while an Anti-Chitta e-pledge was administered across educational institutions and government offices to strengthen collective resolve against drug abuse.
Police have urged citizens to report any drug-related activity via 112 or the nearest police station, assuring strict confidentiality and swift action on all credible information.
The government reiterated its commitment to achieving a “Chitta-free Himachal” with active public cooperation and youth participation.
