Himachal’s Bi-Weekly Drive To Curb Drug Abuse

Activities pertaining to creating awareness against drug abuse will be held every fortnight in the educational institutions of the state. Apart from this the Gram Panchayats, Scouts and guides, NCC cadets, volunteers of NSS and Parents Teachers Associations (PTA), will also be roped in for the cause, stated Secretary Education, Abhishek Jain in a meeting here today.

He said that with the cooperation of IT department, audio and video messages would be disseminated to create awareness amongst the students. Apart from this there will also be counseling sessions in the institutes and the onus of check against drug menace will be upon the principals.

As per the law, the sale of drugs or any similar substances is prohibited within a vicinity of 100 meters from the educational institutions and is punishable and if anybody found violating the law of the land will be brought to the book. One can call on toll free numbers 112 and 1908 if anyone was found guilty of selling psychotropic substances within a parameter of 100 meters from the educational institutions. Jain told that the teachers should exhort the students to participate in gaming and other cultural activities so as to channelize their energy in an effective manner towards curricular activities.
